Nicole's writing has just been published in the Livingston Tribune. Here it is!
Niyama Yoga Shala’s Yama Therapeutics Yoga Teacher Training programs have been in existence over twenty years. The Yamas and the Niyamas, which are cornerstones of Ayurveda, anchor the teachings of Hatha yoga taught in our trainings. One of the Niyamas is Svadhayaya. It is so important that it is our company's Mission Statement.

The Yama Therapeutics yoga teacher training program began as an offering at Yama Studio in Baltimore, MD. In English, the name of the studio is an acronym for: Yoga, Ayurveda, and Meditation Arts.
In Sanskrit, yama means "restraint." There are five Yamas. Adherence to them keeps the individual's ego driven needs at bay, allowing them to find comfort and ease with others in society. The name Yama Therapeutics is meant to focus the student on the first of the eight limbs of yoga: The Yamas.
Once the individual is able to work well with others, the second limb of yoga, the five observances of Niyama, allow the individual to find comfort and ease within themselves.
We are incredibly proud of our Yoga Teacher Training Programs, and we tend to rave about it all the time. We know may have heard us speak about our RYT 200 yoga teacher training a lot in the last couple of months, so we thought it’d be interesting to pass on the mic to the people who know the most about our training - our graduates.
We wanted to share some of the experiences of our graduates to give you a sense of the course. What better way of learning about the course than from the people who've been through it? Here’s some Q&A with recent graduates.

Our mission statement at Niyama is Svadhyaya, which is the Sanskrit word for Self-Study. This principle is one of the 5 Niyamas in yoga. Self-study encompasses all that you will be introduced to from the moment you enter our Shala.
