Yoga Nidra
Yoga Nidra (Yogic Sleep) is a powerful tool that has been practiced for thousands of years as a process of awakening one’s true Self. One of the main tenets of Yoga philosophy is that each and every one of us has an indestructible center that is already peaceful, joyful, wise, soulful, luminous and loving. The “center” is referred to as the Atma (individual soul) or Atman (universal soul) and is believed to be our true Self.
The Atma is covered up by layers that we call the Koshas, or sheathes, of the body. Yoga Nidra’s “goal” is to remove or break through these layers and encourage the release of our true Self. Nidra gives us the direct experience that our inner core is stress-free and that unshakeable inner peace and joy really can exist within, rather than outside ourselves.
“Yoga is the settling of the mind into silence. When the mind is settles, we are established in our essential nature, which is unbounded consciousness”
Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra I.2 & I.3
